NAVAL, Biliran, July 9 (PIA) – – With the aim of ensuring that all school children are provided with basic primary health care services this school year (SY) 2018-2019 through the convergence of all the DepEd health programs, the school heads in the Department of Education (DepEd)-Division of Biliran attended the orientation workshop on OplanKalusugan (OK)saDepEd held in July 5.
OK saDepEd is a new health flagship program of DepEd which will be fully implemented starting the month of July of SY 2018-2019 in collaboration with the Department of Health (DOH), local government units, and various stakeholders.
The OK saDepEd was launched by DepEd Secretary Ma. Leonor M. Briones during the 2017 National Conference of DepEd Health Workers in Pampanga on December 2, 2017.
“OK saDepEd is a convergence of all health programs, plans, policies, programs, and activities,” Lucille Curso Roa, chief of the Schools Governance Operations Division (SGOD) of DepEd-Biliran, said in her message during the orientation workshop.
Roa further said that DepEd health programs on School-Based Feeding Program, Drug Education Campaign, Adolescent Reproductive Health Education Program, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Program, and medical, dental, and nursing services will be converged into the OK saDepEd program.
Other school health advocacy and support programs like the GulayansaPaaralan, Healthy School Environment, School-Based Immunization Program, Helminth Control, and other health program services will form part of the OK saDepEd program, the SGOD of DepEd-Division of Biliran added.
She envisioned the schools in the Division of Biliran getting high mean performance score (MPS) and school children getting quality education with the implementation of the OK saDepEd Program.
The lady SGOD chief urged the school heads to come up with a good implementation plan of the said program in Biliran province to help ensure the healthy well-being of the school children in the entire division. (AJC/RSV/PIA8-Biliran)
