Naval, Biliran – From November 20 to 24, the Province of Biliran will host the La Routa Adventure Race for the Asia Regional Championship, joined in by different countries across the globe.
Among the 16 teams are “Nonstop Adventure” from Poland, New Zealand’s “FEAR Youth,” “KBS Adventure Race Team,” “Team Skomad ADV,” and Malaysia’s “Kamikaze AR Team,” alongside India’s “Sky Runners” and “Team Shershah,” Japan’s “Team Chomolungma,” and eight Filipino teams.
Spanning 350 kilometers, the race will challenge participants with trekking, mountain biking, paddling, navigation tests, an ocean swim, rappelling, ropes, and a mystery challenge. Notably, this marks the debut of a Philippine race in the esteemed Adventure Racing World Series.
La Routa’s race director, Jason Garriado, underscored the province’s remarkable safety standards as a decisive factor in its selection. To facilitate real-time monitoring, each team will be equipped with a GPS tracker.
Backed by the Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT), the Province of Biliran, and Bukid Outdoor Sports, the race aims to spotlight the picturesque landscapes of Biliran and promote nature adventure tourism in Eastern Visayas. Karina Tiopes, DOT-8 Regional Director, encouraged Biliranons to showcase their distinctive hospitality to international visitors.
As teams arrive in the Philippines, they can anticipate a warm welcome while exploring the scenic beauty of Biliran and vying for the Adventure Racing World Series Asia title.
