NAVAL, Biliran – Five officers of the Consumer Association of Naval (CAN) will attend the one-day symposium cum mini-workshop on Friday, March 15 at the regional office of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Pawing, Palo, Leyte.
Engr. Celerina T. Bato, provincial director of DTI-Biliran, informed in a letter-invitation that the symposium cum mini-workshop will be participated in by the officers and members of the different consumers’ organizations in Region 8.
Bato added that the activity is designed to supplement the activities done during the 2012 consumer welfare month celebration.
“The one-day symposium cum mini-workshop is intended to review the action plan drafted by selected officials of consumers’ group in the country who attended the national consumers’ forum in Manila on October 11, 2012,” she said further in a telephone interview.
Agustina O. Caliao, president of CAN, represented the province of Biliran in the national consumers’ forum held in Manila last year. Caliao will also lead the five-man CAN delegation on the one-day symposium cum mini-workshop March 15, she said
She also stated that the said regional activity is part of the continuing program of DTI in revitalizing, strengthening and empowering consumer organizations in the country.
The one-day activity to be undertaken by DTI in line with the celebration of the World Consumer Rights Day which was first observed on March 15, 1983, will also discuss topics on proper handling and filing of consumer complaints, updates on Fair Trade Laws (FTLs) and other issuances, accreditations and membership of consumer organizations.
