NAVAL, Biliran – With the holding of the first day of the two-day nationwide National Achievement Test (NAT) on Tuesday, March 12, an official of the education department, in this town, aimed for a better performance of his district for this year’s NAT.
Roberto G. Manuel, district supervisor of the Naval North District in Biliran province informed that the Department of Education (DepEd) scheduled March 12 and 13, 2013 for the nationwide examination of the NAT for grades three and grade six pupils in the elementary level.
Manuel disclosed that NAT aimed to measure the mastery level of grades three and grade six pupils based on the Philippine Elementary Level Competencies (PELC).
“Grade three NAT examinees were given time allocation of one hour and 30 minutes to answer the following subjects with the corresponding test items: reading text in English-20 items; reading text in Filipino-20 items; English grammar-10 items; Filipino grammar-10 items; Science-15 items; and Mathematics-15 items”, he said.
On the other hand, the NAT examinees in grade three were given time allocation of three hours and 50 minutes to answer the following subjects with the corresponding test items: Filipino-40 items; Mathematics-40 items; English-40 items; Science-40 items, HEKASI-40 items and a break of 15 minutes. Composition writing which is 20 minutes is given only to sample school and not to all schools.
Mr. Manuel further said that his district, which is composed of nine elementary schools, got moving towards mastery level or an equivalent rating percentage of 66 percent to 85 percent in the 2012 NAT results based on the document released by DepEd-Division of Biliran.
He further informed that NAT has the following mastery levels and its percentage equivalent: mastered-96-100; closely approximating mastery-86-95; moving towards mastery-66-85; average-35-65; low-15-34; very low-5-14; and absolutely no mastery-0-4.
“We made the necessary preparations for the NAT like holding comprehensive review classes to grades three and six pupils in all the elementary schools under the Naval North district to have a better NAT performance for 2013”, Manuel emphasized. (PIA 8 Biliran)
