NAVAL, Biliran – The elections supervisor of this province has challenged Biliranons to become responsible and intelligent voters this coming elections.
Lawyer Sabino Mejarito said that changing the mindset of the people remains an elusive dream for all Biliranons as most people still resort to the old style of choosing their leaders.
That makes him issue a challenge to all Biliranons for a radical change by choosing leaders based on their performance and platform and not to use popularity and namesake of a candidate for voting.
“Let’s not be partisan, let us vote for someone with credibility, personality and qualification and capable to govern us,” Mejarito said.
But the election official added that this year, they are expecting a more peaceful election unlike in the previous elections.
Meanwhile, Diocese of Naval Bishop Most Reverend Filomeno Bactol, in his message, cited several characteristics of candidates that voters should check – Makadiyos, Makabayan, Marunong, Masipag and Marangal.
Bactol clarified that they as church people do not campaign for a certain candidate but rather help voters to choose and vote intelligently.
In the coming election four candidates are vying for the top position in the province of Biliran led by incumbent Governor Gerry “Boy” Espina of Liberal Party, Niceto Limpiado of Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino and two independent candidates Edgardo Ambe and Luis Sumaya.
While three candidates are running for lone congressional seat, and these are incumbent district Representative Rogelio Espina of Liberal Party, former Biliran Representative Glenn Chong of Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino and Totos Diu an independent candidate. (Roel Amazona)
