Moderate quakes jolt Bohol, Biliran

Two successive earthquakes jolted Biliran province early morning Thursday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PhiVolcs) said.

According to PhiVolcs’ latest bulletin, a magnitude 2.9 earthquake jolted Biliran province at 4:14 a.m.

The epicenter of the quake was plotted at 27 kilometers southwest of Naval town. It had a depth of 1 km.

More than 15 minutes later, a magnitude 3.1 earthquake again rattled the province.

It was located at 6 km southwest of Biliran. It had a depth of 27 km.

Meanwhile, a magnitude 3.0 earthquake hit northeast of Tagbilaran City at 5:33 a.m.

It had a depth of 10 km.

All quakes were tectonic in origin.

No damage has been recorded and no aftershocks are expected. (Mary Rose A. Hogaza)
