NAVAL, Biliran July 15 (PIA) – Big waves brought by high tide approximately measuring two meters in height aggravated by strong southwest monsoon winds caused the destruction of several houses in some coastal barangays in Naval as Biliran province was placed under signal number 2 with Tropical Storm Glenda.
However, the municipal disaster risk reduction and management office in Naval led by Raoul Villordon, Naval MDRRMO, said that his office will still be validating as to the number of houses that has been destroyed totally or partially as big waves started to pound houses along the coastal barangays this town at around early afternoon on Tuesday, July 15.
The MDRRMO in Naval will start its official validation of damage houses by Wednesday, July 16, Villordon said in an interview at his office late evening today.
He added that his office was not able to validate on Tuesday. July 15, the number of damage houses since he was preoccupied with the equally urgent requests of some barangays captains who were seeking the assistance of his office.
In Barangay Sto. Nino alone, one of the coastal barangays in Naval, there were estimated 30 houses that have been totally wrecked by big waves .
Several houses located along the shoreline of Barangay Atipolo in Naval town, specifically in Lower Basak, were also destroyed by the big waves
Several commercial stalls situated along the coastal portion of the Naval public bus terminal were displaced and even several cubic meters of sand are now to be found within the area of the public transport terminal.
As of this writing, the entire province of Biliran was in blackout, however, the management of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) and the of Biliran Electric Cooperative, Incorporated (BILECO) have exerted their best efforts to restore power in the entire coverage area the soonest time possible.
Abnormal communication signals from both telco providers, that of Globe and Smart, were also observed in Biliran province late afternoon and in the evening of Tuesday, July 15.
No initial report yet was available from the concerned government agencies as to the damage in infrastructure and in agriculture in Biliran province.
No casualty was also reported related to TS Glenda as of this writing coming from the concerned government agencies. (rvictoria/PIA 8 Biliran)
