Just in. According to our reliable source, the burning yacht is owned by Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, and not by his brother Philip.
8PM : Update: The boat continues to burn off Culaba. But a speedboat was retrieved.


According to Sofronio Dacillo Jr, of Biliran PDRRMC, the yacht’s name is MY Lubenico. The crew – Captain Ronald Salmoren, 43; chief mate, Gregorio Booc; chief engr, Neil Abatayo, 43; electrician, Eugene Gorge, 34; AB Melody de San Jose, 34; AB Joel Sotomayor, 33; oiler, Manny Azul; oiler, James Sotomayor, 23; cook/steward, John Adrian, 23.
Erratum: There are 9 named crew members, not 8 as initially reported. The yacht burned some 4-5 km from Culaba, Biliran, at sea between Samar and Culaba

Breaking News. The yacht of Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez caught fire at sea off Brgy. Verginia, Culaba in Biliran while sailing from Tacloban to Manila. The 8 crew members are safe.
The yacht of Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez caught fire at sea off Brgy. Verginia, Culaba in Biliran while sailing from Tacloban to Manila. The 8 crew members are safe at Culaba RHU. It left Tacloban at 7:00 am and sent a distress call at 12:40 pm. The fire allegedly came out of the exhaust pipe.
