Rotary Club of BiliranIsland vows to provide easy access to potable drinking water to some barangays in Naval

NAVAL, Biliran (PIA) – Some barangays in this town whose residents have still to walk far just to get potable drinking water for their daily use will already be addressed as the Rotary Club (RC) of BiliranIsland in coordination with the Alternative Indigenous Development Foundation, Incorporated (AIDFI) and Agos project of the Coca-Cola Foundation vowed to implement the ram pump project in identified barangays of Naval.

“The ram pump project is a very feasible and cost-effective project that can answer one of the basic needs in the community”, said Engr. Ferdinand “Dindin” Morillo, president of RC BiliranIsland who also thanked Dr.Gilbert Tugado, president of RC Kankabato of Tacloban City for sharing about the ram pump project.

Morillo added that a two-day technical inspection was already conducted on October 28-29, 2015 by a technical team from AIDFI together with Father Calvin Bugho, OFM and ram pump project consultant, the presidents and some members of RCs Biliran and RC Kankabato of Tacloban to validate the feasibility of installing the ram pump project in some barangays in Naval where potable drinking water is a big problem.

The group identified as first priority in the implementation of the project in the early period of 2016 the water source in Libtong Gamay for additional installation of another ram pumps in the area aside from the existing ram pumps already installed to serve Barangays Villacaneja, Cabungaan, Campoding and part of Caray-Caray proper, he further said.

The RC BiliranIsland prexy said further, Barangay Haguikhikan was also identified for another installation of ram pumps to be distributed to Barangay Catmon which is considered the second priority for implementation in 2016. A water source in Sitio Dapdap which could serve the residents living in the area is also identified for installation of the ram pump project.

“The legwork necessary in the implementation of the ram pump project like community organizing in the identified areas where the project will be installed will be facilitated by RC BiliranIsland in coordination with LGU-Naval through Mayor Susan Parilla including the preparations of the project site”, Morillo said.

He informed that the AIDFI’s Management Committee has recently approved in principle the identified ram pump projects of RCs BiliranIsland and Kankabato in Tacloban City for implementation early next year.

A Memorandum of Undertaking (MOU) between AIDFI and RC BiliranIsland regarding the implementation of the ram pump projects was already drafted for approval, Morillo further said. (fj/PIA 8 Biliran)
