NAVAL, Biliran – As the total gun ban took effect on Sunday, January 10, cops from this town arrested the first individual in possession of his gun in public and worse he was in possession of illegal drugs.

Ricardo Ampong aka “Tata”, a resident of this town was arrested by Naval police when he allegedly intervened during the arrest of Leo Niegas, a resident of Barangay Calumpang of this town who has a standing warrant of arrest in violation of RA 9165 or the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Ampong was allegedly an undercover agent of law enforcement agencies that work on anti-illegal drug activities.
Niegas was able to escape during the first attempt of police authorities to arrest him on October 6, 2015 in his house in Barangay Calumpang.However, his wife,Trinidad with two others were arrested that time in a buy-bust operation.
Ampong was caught in possession of one Caliber 25 baby pistol, one piece big and two pieces small heat sealed of transparent plastic sachets containing white crystalline substance believed to be shabu, various drug paraphernalia, and cash amounting to P14,000.
The arresting police officers also seized from Niegas seven pieces of small heat sealed plastic sachets containing white crystalline substance believed to be shabu, one mobile phone, two pieces plastic lighter and cash amounting to P1,000.
Ampong and Niegas were arrested at around 6:00 pm at the back portion of Niegas house in Barangay Calumpang on January 13, 2016 by Naval police elements led by Police Chief Inspector Nonito G. Zuasula, the new chief of police of this town who assumed the post on January 5, 2016 as replacement of Police Senior Inspector Renencio L. Raquipo, who is currently assigned at the Biliran Police Provincial Office. – BiliranIsland.com
