DE ADONGAY SUPPORTS NIA’S PROJECT IMPLEMENTATIONS AND SPEEDY RECOVERY OF DAMAGED IRRIGATIONS CAUSED BY TYPHOONS URDUJA AND AGATON

Naval, Biliran – The Biliran District Engineering Office (BDEO) of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is helping the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) repair its project damaged by the typhoons Urduja and Agaton.

David P. Adongay Jr., BDEO district engineer, committed the support of his office to NIA during the stakeholders forum hosted by the NIA Leyte Irrigation Management Office in this town recently.

The forum was attended by representatives from government agencies, private entities, irrigators associations, and stakeholders, Adongay said.

The forum was meant to come up with a covenant to support the faster and better implementation of irrigation projects and sustainable and reliable irrigation service and to solicit the assistance of stakeholders for the restoration of the communal irrigation systems and the speedy recovery of irrigation communities devastated by the two typhoons.

Adongay said DPWH was ready to pitch in by providing equipment.

But he added that the equipment must be requested from the DPWH regional director in Palo, Leyte, to determine if they are available because the Biliran DEO is presently focused on repairing storm-damaged roads and bridges.

“NIA can immediately avail the equipment in case the Regional Director approves their request and whenever the equipment is available,” Adongay said.

Adongay said the NIA also has to coordinate with DPWH since most of DPWH projects involve road widening, and will affect the canals that NIA will build.

Any irrigation work that cuts across a national highway have to be cleared first by DPWH, he said.
