A FUN ride turned outreach program benefitted 125 indigent residents mostly from the Manobo and Mamanwa tribal groups in the upland village of Almeria, Biliran, on Tuesday, August 21.
“We intend to make use of our vehicle to be able to go to inaccessible areas in the province so we can help and make a small difference. Rather than use our asset for ‘porma-porma,’ we want to utilize it and help far-flung communities,” said Rhoel Ladera, Tacloban-based businessman and vice-president of the Navara Nation Philippines-Eastern Visayas chapter.
The car club donated school supplies, backpacks, and groceries to the students of Palayan Elementary School in Sitio Palayan, Barangay Caucab in Almeria town.
Sixty-five students and 60 families who are mostly from the indigenous groups received the assistance.
“This is the first fun ride-cum-outreach program of our car club,” said Ladera while thanking their club president Engr. Adroel Octaviano and Nissan Eastern Visayas.
The group, which has 30 official members and more than 20 associate members already, used 10 vehicles to navigate the mountainous terrain in the area.
According to Ladera, the area is not passable during rainy days because its farm-to-market road is not yet finished.
He said they are set for another outreach activity in an upland school in Leyte.
“The Navara Nation Eastern Visayas Chapter is not only a group of Navara enthusiasts but also a group of survivor Warays who knows and have felt how to have less in life during natural tragedies that have passed through Eastern Visayas,” said Aaron Almadro, regional marketing manager of Nissan Eastern Visayas.
“They are sharing their passion of ride and selfless service through community service and example is this first-ever activity [in] Biliran,” Almadro told SunStar Philippines.
“We at Nissan Tacloban share that same passion. We are here to support them in whatever way we can,” he added. (SunStar Philippines)
