Kawayan treasurer held up in Naval

The employees from the municipality of Kawayan lost over P400,000 worth of cash for their payroll to a thief who robbed their treasurer at gunpoint last Friday, March 1, in Brgy. Agpangi, Naval, Biliran.

The victim, Kawayan Municipal Treasurer Domingo Vidal, told the Naval Police that he, together with the municipality’s Agricultural Technician, Senior Bookkeeper and Driver, were on their way back to the Municipal Office on board the municipality’s service vehicle, when the robbery happened about 1:50 p.m. on Friday.

The victims came from Landbank, where Vidal withdrew a total of P421,380.84 in cash for salaries and allowances of Kawayan Day Care Center employees for the period covering February 16-28, 2013. On the way back to their station, an unidentified person hitched a ride in their service vehicle at Brgy. Agpangi. Upon entering Sitio Dapdap, the suspect drew out his gun, announced a hold-up and told the driver to turn the vehicle to Brgy. Talustusan. He then told to Vidal to surrender to him his bag containing the aforesaid cash.

The police have yet to identify the suspect in the incident.
