‎500 jobs up for grabs for Biliran students in summer

NAVAL, Biliran – Five hundred jobs are waiting for students in the province of Biliran this summer, says Marilou Estomago Jornales of the provincial field office of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

Jornales informed in an interview that the 500 job opportunities that are offered this summer are under the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) of the DOLE.

Under the SPES, any qualified students aged 15-24 can apply to any government office or agency or even in the private firms in the province that offer job opportunities this summer, Jornales said.

She added that to qualify under the SPES the requirements are the following: birth certificate from the National Statistics Office (NSO); grades for the second semester or any document as proof of enrollment; certification from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) that one is an indigent; and school identification card.

DOLE will shoulder 40 percent of the total salary to be received by the student and the remaining 60 percent will be shouldered by the employer, she added.

Jornales advised all interested student applicant to visit the Public Employment Services Office (PESO) stationed in the town hall of the eight municipalities on the available jobs this summer.

She revealed that as of now, the following local government units in the province of Biliran have offered jobs under the SPES: provincial government of Biliran-300 slots; Cabucgayan-30; Biliran-110; Caibiran-30 and Maripipi-30.

At present, DOLE-Biliran is still awaiting pledges from other national government agencies, local government units, school like the Naval State University (NSU) and from the private firms in the province as to the number of job opportunities they can pledge under the SPES of DOLE. (PIA-Biliran).
