Biliran to launch activities in celebration of rabies awareness month

NAVAL, Biliran, March 4, 2013 (PIA) – The provincial government of Biliran led by Governor Gerardo Espina, Jr through the Provincial Veterinary Office and the Provincial Health Office will take the lead in launching the activities to celebrate Rabies Awareness Month in the province on Friday, March 8 in the municipality of Kawayan.

This was relevealed by Dr. Suzette Apura, Provincial Veterinarian and Chairman of the Provincial Rabies Prevention and Control Program (PRPCC).

She informed that it has been the practice of the provincial government of Biliran to hold the launching of activities of the celebration in one of the eight municipalities in the province, which acts as the host municipality every year to raise awareness of people about the event.

The launching of activities for the Rabies Awareness Month celebration in every municipality every year likewise aims to raise awareness of people in the area on the dangers of human and animal rabies and the importance of rabies elimination not only in Biliran province but in other province nationwide and the whole world.

On Friday (March 8), the activities will start with a motorcade to Kawayan from poblacion Naval which is 19 kilometers away from the capital town, at 7:00 o’clock in the morning.

The motorcade will be joined in by the officers and employees of identified national government agencies (NGAs), provincial health office, members and officers of the PRPCC, local government officials and other groups.

A short program follows after the motorcade at the Kawayan municipal grounds.

Local government unit (LGU) officials who made significant contributions and support in making Biliran a rabies-free province will be given recognition.

NGAs and other groups who likewise worked to make the province rabies-free will also be given recognition.

The launching program of the activities for the Rabies Awareness Month celebration in March, 2013 in the province will be highlighted by the presence of Congressman Rogelio Espina of the lone district of Biliran, Governor Gerardo Espina Jr., mayors of the eight municipalities of the province, barangay officials and DepEd officials.

Part II of the day-long activity is the free vaccination and castration of dogs in Kawayan and nearby towns and barangays. (PIA 8 Biliran)
