NAVAL, Biliran – The Provincial Nutrition Committee (PNC) will conduct a nutrition forum to all the barangays captains in Biliran province as a venue to disseminate valuable information on how to contain malnutrition and hunger.
The nutrition forum is set to be held on July 31, 2013 at the Nipa Hut in the provincial Capitol compound. The activity will also serve as culminating activity of the Biliran PNC in the month-long nutrition month celebration in July.
He highlight of the nutrition forum includes a comprehensive lecture on hunger and how government policies and programs address hunger and malnutrition; actions to reduce hunger and malnutrition; what can families and individuals do to help reduce hunger and malnutrition; and other related topics to hunger and malnutrition.
Some barangays in the province of Biliran will be given certificate of recognition during the nutrition forum as a way of recognizing their efforts which pave the way for the big improvement of the nutritional status of their constituents especially the 0-71 months old children.
Results of the Operation Timbang (OPT) in all of the 132 barangays will be presented in the forum to give the barangay captains the picture of the nutritional status of their respective barangay.
PNC member agencies like the Department of Education (DepEd), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), National Food Authority (NFA) and Philippine National Police (PNP) will also share their agencies’ projects, programs and activities geared towards addressing malnutrition and hunger.
Distribution of seeds to the participants will cap the provincial nutrition forum which will start at 8:00 o’clock in the morning and ends at 3:00 o’clock in the afternoon.
This year’s 39th nutrition month celebration is focused on the theme:’Gutom at Malnutrisyon, Sama-Sama Nating Wakasan”. (PIA 8 Biliran)
