TACLOBAN CITY – Fast food retail store Mister Donut is on expansion mode in Eastern Visayas.
The food chain is aiming to double the number of existing stores in the region until 2014, banking on improved infrastructure and demand for popular food retail brand in rural areas.
Richard Young, chief executive officer of RY-MD Food Chain Inc., the exclusive franchisee of Mister Donut in Region 8 and Region 13, said that part of their short-term expansion plan is to open up dine- in restaurants, offering rice and chicken in addition to donuts.
Currently, Mister Donut has 21 stores in the region and the plan is to establish 40 stores by next year.
“Looking at the present corporate directions, 40 shops in more than a year is possible. The market may not be good in provinces but we want people to feel the presence of national brand in rural areas,” Young told Leyte Samar Daily Express.
Young is eyeing to put up new take-out shops in Biliran province, Isabel and Palompon in Leyte. Mister donut will also revive its presence in Eastern Samar after it closed down stores in 2011, due to bad roads and damaged bridges.
From 2008 to 2011, Mister Donut operated shops in General Macarthur, Taft, Dolores and Oras and in Borongan City.
“Now that the road has been improving, we are planning to reopen in Eastern Samar,” Young said referring to the ongoing road project funded by the United States connecting Samar and Eastern Samar provinces.
Dine-in restaurants will also be set up in Baybay City and Hilongos, both in Leyte and in Maasin City. Additional stores will also be opened in Ormoc City.
Since 2007, 21 stores have been operating in the cities of Tacloban, Baybay and Ormoc and in the towns of Carigara, Jaro, Tanauan and Hilongos, all in Leyte; Catarman and Allen in Northern Samar; Sogod and Maasin in Southern Leyte; and in the cities of Catbalogan and Calbayog in Samar.
Of the 21 shops, five are dine-in restaurants located in Calbayog, Allen, Catarman, Calbayog, and Tacloban. The food chain has also nine mobile stores.
Mister Donut put up a plant in this city to support several shops with a capacity to produce up to 42,000 pieces of donuts daily. The food chain delivers fresh products daily to all dine-in restaurants and take-out booths. (SARWELL Q.MENIANO)
