Update: August 27, 2016 10:08 PM The deliberate decision to strand the boat is not an unhappy incident rather it was a mastery of the ship handling. Initial reports claimed that the Chief Mate of MV Manfel Carrier II noticed that the port ballast tank had a hole. The captain then decided to strand her deliberately in order to prevent further damage.
PO1 Cecille Rey Ceniza and PO1 Boffill Bernardes were the first responders of the incident. The Philippine Coast Guard had been notified.
As of this date August 27, 2016 at 9:30pm, all the crew members are safe. Four of the crew were picked up by another vessel heading to Calbayog.
MARIPIPI, Biliran – A Philippine registered cargo ship ran a ground in Maripipi today, dated August 27, 2016.

According to PInsp Marlon Avila Acuin, OIC Maripipi Police Station, the ship’s hull was holed below. The vessel was drifting in the Maripipi waters, 100 meters east from Brgy. Binalayan.
MV Manfel Carrier II has a gross tonnage of 488.5 The ship departed from Naga City bound to Tacloban city with a cargo of 34,000 cement bags.
Capt. Rodrigo Estiban O. Rillera and seventeen of the ship’s crew is safely accounted for. They are now in the Maripipi police station for questioning.
